In the United States, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255). This service is available 24/7 and provides confidential support for people in distress.

As of July 2022, the new National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 988, making it even easier to remember and access help.

In addition to the suicide hotline, there are several other resources and agencies that provide mental health support:

  1. Crisis Text Line: Text "HOME" to 741741 to connect with a trained crisis counselor via text messaging.

  2. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): You can reach the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (1-800-662-4357) for information on mental health and substance use treatment services.

  3. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness): NAMI offers support, education, and advocacy for individuals affected by mental illness. You can call their helpline at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264).
